This is a 91mm (in 35mm equiv.) macro lens, but thanks to the bright f2.4 maximum aperture, it can also be used as a portrait lens just like other modern macro lenses. Resolving power is very high and it captures the edge lines of subjects with sharpness. With this versatile lens, you can get close to or keep some distance from subjects taking advantage of the sharpness and bokeh. I always put a short telephoto macro lens in my bag. But, I will be using this macro lens even more frequently because the X system allows me to downsize my system.

The withered ivy looks very sharp and it looks as if it's popping out from the background, even in this limited lighting.

A macro lens is great for shooting this kind of subject. The ice cubes look as if they are moving at any moment.

The moderate sense of distance enables this kind of snapshots. You don't always have to get close to the subject just because it's a macro lens.

This lens is also perfect for a photo walk in the countryside. Depiction of distant subjects is also wonderful.

Of course, you can get close to the subject and enjoy the tack sharpness and the beautiful bokeh.
