Canon EOS 6D / SHOOTING REPORT

Although 2 years have passed since the EOS 6D was released as the lightest full frame model, it still keeps the position because it's lighter than the new APS-C model EOS 7D Mark II. Thanks to the magnesium alloy parts on the front and rear body, it feels so light yet reassuring unlike full frame mirrorless cameras. Plus, the legendary Canon EF mount guarantees greater lens choices. In this report, we chose the EF24-70mm F2.8 L USM to take the advantage of light handling.

It's an entry model in the full frame lineup, but because of the large sensor, its image quality completely beats the top APS-C models. And, this stunning image quality is realized by the imaging processor, too.

It depicted the great detail of the dog's hair, collar, and the T-shirt's wrinkles. And, this minute depiction is realized by the large amount of information gained by the large sensor.

The 0.71X maginification and 97% coverage optical viewfinder is highly practical. And, finding focus peak is easy. You can always switch to liveview on the 3-inch LCD for even more accurate focusing.

Expecting rich tonal gradation realized by the large sensor, I shot over to get good tonal gradation of the deck as well as the concrete. And, I got what I wanted. Great job.

The drawing line is so minute and natural. And, thanks to the number of pixels over 20 megapixels, the resolution is pleasantly high.

There're some noise at ISO12800, but it's well-controlled particularly in the shadow area. Faster shutter speed is always welcome.

The L lens is backlight resistant and delivers clear images. I don't think human eye can capture as this set does because it's more prone to halation.

Skip APS-C and start from full frame? Why not?

Even though the body is so light, the full frame sensor ensures rich tonal gradation. And, it's light on your wallet, too. The full frame camera is not a dream camera anymore. You may find the AF a bit slow for active subjects in sports, but for landscape and portraits, it works just fine. And, the Wi-Fi and the GPS make this camera a perfect body for active shooters.
