This compact Contemporary Line high-zoom lens from SIGMA works with PENTAX APS-C format cameras and covers between 28mm and 460mm equivalent. Growing population of digital camera users who want to take high-quality images easily seems to have influenced the number of releases of high-performance high-zoom lenses and this lens is a good example. Although the image quality is obvious as I demonstrated below, I’m also impressed by the design and build quality.

Shooting an inside location with a complicated lighting condition. The space was almost colorless, but I can tell they have different types of textures.

Shooting subjects with straight lines at the wide-end. The lines are almost straight and I like the clear blue color of the sky.

A runner seen from an overhead walkway. To zoom from 18mm to 300mm, just rotate the zoom ring by 90 degrees. Because you can zoom with a slight movement of the wrist, you can compose instantly.

Using the tele-end, I shot the parent and child walking toward me, while the person in the previous shot was walking away. In both situations, the AF kept following the subjects. I like the delicate rendition of the child’s hairs swinging in the wind.

The soft tone and delicate rendition added express the elegance of the space. While we don’t usually pay attention to the tone of a town, you’ll want to capture it with this lens.

The curtains behind the window glass pop out beautifully from the background. The location around the gingko trees had a soft light.

Drawing different materials differently is hard when they have the same color. But, this lens perfectly expressed the different blacks of the leather, fiber, and synthetic resin.

When you want to make your photos look more appealing, you need a power of lens. I feel that high-zoom lenses are not entry-level lenses anymore. This is not only a great starter lens, but also a great lightweight street shooter.
