The 400mm F2.8 is a standard lens for sports and bird photography and Nikon had the highly acclaimed AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8G ED VR. And, now it's updated to the AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8 E FL ED VR. Thanks to the magnesium alloy parts and fluorine lens elements, it weighs 820 grams lighter than the predecessor. What a diet. And, in addition to the normal mode, the 4-stop VR has the new sport mode for subjects moving quickly. So, although it's commonly used with a tripod or monopod, you can also shoot handheld with confidence. The fast AF captures subjects without hunting and it's always fun to watch blurred subjects being focused until they become sharp. Maybe, it's good idea to keep shooting handheld because you may be able to get unexpected results.

Shot wide open. Each splash looks sharp and solid. This is the power of compression by a 400mm lens. The drawing line is so delicate, too.

Great color reproduction. The subject is popping out from the blur background.

Even at F4, the depth of field is very shallow. People doing their best always make great pictures.

Thanks to the big bokeh, the subject is completely isolated. And, the depiction is so minute.

It's a hefty lens but it's worth taking it for streets. Thanks to the combination of sharpness wide open and the powerful VR, you can use safe shutter speeds.

Natural drawing line. Resolution is just about perfect.

The color of light changes in the magic hour. Are they catching little crabs? You can always eliminate vignetting by stopping down, but in this case, it works to surround the small world and the image becomes more emotional. This lens is not only sharp, but also tasty.
