FUJIFILM X20 BODY PREVIEW

New Choices. X20 in two colors.

The X20 is a follow-up to the X10 and it was released with the X100S. While the X100S is a premium model with a prime lens, the compact X20 has a zoom lens yet offers a premium feel. Let’s look at the body and compare it with the X10.

Top front view. I first noticed that the engraving of the model name has moved from the top to the front. Also, the font is now the same with the one used for the X-E1 and the X100S.

Top view. There is one slight change in the mode dial: the "EXR" has been replaced with "SR+" (advanced SR auto).

Rear view. There are some changes on the back. First, the "MADE IN JAPAN" engraving on the right of the viewfinder has moved to the lower right of the body (under the "DISP BACK" button). Second, there is an eye sensor next to the viewfinder. Together with the optical viewfinder overlaid by the newly developed Digital Trans panel, this eye sensor looks useful as well. Finally, there are three changes in the buttons. The "RAW" button on the right is now the "Q" button for quick menu, just like the ones already applied in other X models. The "AF" and the "DRIVE" buttons on the sides of LCD are switched.

The X20 carries the compactness and elegance, while making a major update.

Although there are only minor changes in the appearance, there seems to be major changes in functions. While there is no change in the number of effective pixels, I hear that it has better picture quality with a new sensor and processor, and also provides faster operation. The AF should be faster and more accurate and the Lens Modulation Optimizer should provide sharp images even when stopped down. Plus, the movie function has been enhanced. In terms of appearance, this camera also comes in silver, giving a pleasure of color choice.
