Canon EOS 5Ds R / SHOOTING REPORT

The EOS 5Ds demonstrated its outstanding image quality realized by the massive number of pixels. This is the long-awaited shooting report of the EOS 5DsR, featuring even higher resolution by cancelling the effect of lowpass filter. And, the best way to demonstrate its power of expression is to show you more images than usual.

This is the first shot with this camera and I focused on the curtain. It not only resolved every warp and woof, but also drew the texture of the fiber realistically. After looking at this result, I got quite excited about the potential of this camera.

The color reproduction appears to be quieter although it's never somber. I'd say it has more profound expressive power also realized by the rich tonal gradation. More simply, the image looks so sweet.

The new "Fine Detail Picture Style" enhances the definition. It's so minute that I wonder if it even draws the grains, let alone the detail.

Noise becomes noticeable at ISO3200, but practically it looks OK thanks to the smart noise handling.

It precisely defined every raindrop and their 3D separation is wonderful.

Tracing fine details of the branches was a piece of cake. Maybe it even resolves every drop of the mist in the valley. And, this camera does more than resolving. It captures the air between the sensor and the subject.

Despite the massive number of pixels, the response of this camera is very quick and I never had to slow down my pace. This fine-tuning is very Canon.

Unparalleled power of resolution captures the air.

Does the 50.6-megapixel sensor capture the air of the scene? Of course, it cannot shoot invisible subjects. But, this camera not only draw high-density images, but also express the air. If the number of pixels is high, we are concerned about the issues with pixel pitch and noise at higher sensitivity. But, I never experienced these issues with this camera and I was quite impressed by the uniquely powerful expression that this high number of pixels realizes. Of course, you should be very careful of camera shake because of the large number of pixels. Yet, it's so much easier to handle than the "rituals" to shoot with medium and large format cameras. Once you experienced this expression of air, resolution, and definition, there's no turning back. Undeniably, this camera is one of the best digital camera out there now and I'm excited to see pictures that photographers around the world will take with it.
